While the evolving healthcare industry has created many new opportunities for sponsorship sellers, properties would be wise not to overlook one small but important segment: blood banks.

Non-profit and for-profit blood banks continue to align with pro sports teams, motorsports facilities and other properties to educate consumers about the importance of giving blood and access tickets, autographed merchandise and other inventory that can be used to incent donations.

Among recent activity, BloodSource has signed an official sponsorship of California’s Sonoma Raceway while Virginia Blood Services will title an 8K run as part of next month’s Miller Lite Charlottesville Marathon.

While some blood banks may not have money for cash deals, properties can use the partnerships to support community outreach and CSR initiatives.

Below, three sponsorship hot buttons for the blood bank category:

Educate consumers about the importance of donating blood
BloodSource will message the importance of blood donations during the June 20-22 Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway.

The nonprofit will offer tours of a blood mobile located in the track’s main paddock.

Host on-site blood drives
Blood banks frequently leverage sponsorship with on-site blood drives at pro sports stadiums, motorsports facilities and other venues.

The Blood Alliance leverages its partnership with the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars with the Jaguars Gift of Life blood drive at Everbank Field, while BloodSource will participate in Sonoma Raceway’s High-Speed Blood Drive on May 5th.

Consumers who participated in the Jaguars blood drive had the chance to win autographed team merchandise, while donors at the High-Speed Blood Drive will have the opportunity to ride in a race car prior to donating blood.

Generate excitement at off-site blood drives
BloodSource will leverage Sonoma Raceway with motorsports-themed blood drives throughout Northern California. The events will feature a show car, the Sonoma Raceway Girls and the opportunity to win race tickets.
