Sponsorship Sector to Grow Despite Economic Slowdown

The Asia Pacific region is expected to experience the greatest sponsorship growth in 2009, according to research by US sponsorship information company IEG.
IEG predicts that global sponsorship spending will increase 3.9% to $44.8 billion in 2009 and that the Asia Pacific sponsorship sector will rise 7.4 percent during the year.
The report says that the North American sponsorship sector will be the most affected by the economic slowdown, but it will still experience positive growth in the order of 2.2 percent in 2009.
Sponsorship of sport is expected to grow 1.8 percent to $11.61 billion compared with growth of 15% last year. Sponsorship of entertainment tours and attractions is projected to increase by 1.9 percent to $1.66 billion and sponsorship of causes will be up 3.1 precent to $1.57 billion, the IEG report predicts.
IEG predicts that sponsorship spending in Europe will grow 4.3 percent, and in Central and South America it will growth at 2.9 percent in 2009.
