The Coca-Cola Co. is by far the most active sponsor of European soccer.

Thirty-three percent of top-tier soccer tournaments, clubs, leagues, governing bodies and national teams in England, Italy, Spain, France and Germany report a partnership with the beverage giant, according to IEG research.

Nike, Inc. is the second most active sponsor (22 percent) followed by Adidas in third (19 percent).  

Sports apparel and equipment is the most active category sponsoring European soccer. Sports apparel and equipment companies are 5.7 times more likely to sponsor professional soccer than the average of all sponsors.

Media and publishing; food; lottery and gaming; and autos round out the top five most active categories.
