As befitting a category that prides itself on community involvement, banks are increasing their support of zoos and aquariums.

Banks are 8.2 times more likely to sponsor zoos and aquariums than the average of all sponsors, up from 4.1 in 2013, according to IEG Research.

Wells Fargo & Co. is the most active sponsor in the bank category with 17 percent of properties reporting a partnership with the company. Bank of America Corp. is the second most active sponsor (9 percent) with PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. in a close third (8 percent).

The Coca-Cola Co. is the most active sponsor in terms of number of deals with 33 percent of properties reporting a partnership with the beverage giant. PepsiCo, Inc. is the second most active sponsor with deals with 26 percent of properties.
